seniors

After school let's out for Summer vacation, it is time to rest, relax and enjoy the sun, right?  Yes, but there is a little extra to think about when your child is about to enter their senior year.

As parents, we are used to seeing and enjoying our kids do all of their "firsts".  Their first steps, their first steps, their first day of school, their first *insert sport achievement*.  That list of firsts can go on and on and on, until they don't anymore.

Their senior year is when you start using the word last rather than first, so much more.

Their last first day of high school, their last prom, last football game, last school lunch, last Summer with all their friends close by.

Before all those lasts come, there is one more first to check off the list.  The first high school senior photo session.

For many parents and students, there are a lot of questions about the process.  I want to shed some light on how I run my senior sessions and answer a few of the most frequent questions I get asked.

The first question I get is "When is the right time for senior photos?"  The answer is the Summer/Fall that precedes your senior year.

Your school will send you information about the requirements of senior photos.  All schools will have a different due date to submit your photo(s) for the yearbook.  Some are September and some go as late as November.   Along with the due date, your school will also tell you if there are background or image size requirements for the yearbook.  All the requirements need to be shared with me, as the photographer.

The next question I get asked is "Where should we have the session?".

The answer to that question will be different for all of you.  I do not do cookie cutter senior sessions.  Senior  sessions are to celebrate the senior and all their achievements.  So a place that is special to him/her is the best place for the session.  But, if there are no ideas, do not worry, I have tons!  We will work together to determine the location that makes everyone excited for your session.

The next question is of course "How much will this cost?".

I offer three different session types to fit everyone's budgets and needs.

There is so much more to senior sessions then what I listed above.  I offer wardrobe assistance, help with posing BEFORE the session so you are ready, a questionnaire to help get to know the senior and what I believe is the most important, the in-person meeting.  That is right, anyone who reaches out to me to inquire about senior photos, I request a meeting.  I treat senior sessions like they are special, because they are!  I encourage all parents/seniors meet me at a Tim Hortons where I buy everyone a drink and we chat.  I show you an entire gallery, not just a few images from a couple sessions, I go over my process in detail, and I get to know what you want and expect from your session.

Before the last of the last comes and goes, make sure you reach out to schedule that meeting, so we can get to work on starting that last year of high school!
